What happens to an individual brain and body as it changes from being sedentary to being physically active? That is the question that motivated the Holistic Exercise and Active Living: Tracking Health Yearlong (HEALTHY) study at Northeastern University. Following a period of inactivity (see healingbrain.net) a single participant—Professor Jonathan Peelle—started exercising again for the first time in years. We tracked brain, mental health, and physiological correlates of his journey over the course of a year.
